England have been dealt a huge blow after it was confirmed that all-rounder Chris Woakes will play no further part in the ongoing Champions Trophy.
Woakes sustained a side strain during England’s Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh on Thursday, where he only bowled two overs before leaving the field.
The 28-year-old underwent scans last night, which confirmed the injury. While the details of his injury are unknown, side strains typically take between four to six weeks to heal.
England have yet to name a replacement for Woakes, but it is likely that Steven Finn or Toby Roland-Jones will be called up to take his spot in the squad.
England won their match against Bangladesh by eight wickets and will now go up against New Zealand and Australia on June 6 and 10 respectively.
