Mohammed Siraj ripped through the Gujarat Lions’ batting line-up with a four-wicket haul to guide the Sunrisers Hyderabad to an eight-wicket win.

Being put in to bat first, the Lions made a wonderful start to their innings as Dwayne Smith and Ishan Kishan amassed a 111-run partnership, during which both batsmen brought up their half-centuries.

Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan provided the breakthrough for the Sunrisers as he trapped Smith lbw for 54, which came off 33 balls and included seven boundaries and two sixes.

Two balls later, Siraj sent Lions captain Suresh Raina back to the pavilion for just two runs.

Led by Rashid and Siraj, the Sunrisers scythed through the Lions’ middle and lower order. With Bhuvneshwar Kumar taking out the tail-enders, the Lions ended up being bowled out for 154.

Siraj was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Rashid took three, Bhuvneshwar got two and Siddarth Kaul chipped in with one.

Chasing 155 to win, the Sunrisers were dealt two early blows as opener Shikhar Dhawan and all-rounder Moises Henriques were removed for 18 and four runs respectively.

However, captain David Warner and Vijay Shankar finished things off with an unbeaten 133-run stand, during which both batsmen surpassed their half-centuries.
