Lendl Simmons smashed a superb 66 and his West Indian compatriot Kieron Pollard hammered an unbeaten 63 as the Mumbai Indians battered the Delhi Daredevils by 146 runs.

Not only did the Indians skittle the Daredevils out for 66 after posting 212, but their margin of victory was so large that it is now the biggest in Indian Premier League (IPL) history.

Being put in to bat first, the Indians got off to a fantastic start as Simmons and Parthiv Patel amassed a 79-run partnership before Patel was stumped by Rishabh Pant off the bowling of Amit Mishra for 25.

Simmons went on to make 66 off 43 balls, which included five boundaries and four sixes, before he was dismissed by Corey Anderson.

Even though captain Rohit Sharma fell for just 10 runs, Pollard and Hardik Pandya ensured the Indians ended their innings on a high as they put together an unbeaten 59-run stand, during which Pollard raced past his fifty.

Pollard finished on 63 off 35 balls, which included five boundaries and four sixes, while Pandya made 29 off 14 deliveries, which included one boundary and three sixes.

Mishra, Anderson and Kagiso Rabada picked up one wicket apiece as the Indians concluded their innings on 212/3.

Chasing 213 to win, the Daredevils got off to the worst possible start as opener Sanju Samson was sent packing by Mitchell McClenaghan on the first ball of the innings.

Things didn’t get any better for the Daredevils from there on as their entire batting line-up crumbled.

In the end, only three batsmen – Karun Nair, Corey Anderson and Pat Cummins, who made 21, 10 and 10 respectively, managed to reach double figures.

As a result of that, they were bundled out for a dismal total of 66.

Harbhajan Singh and Karn Sharma took three wickets apiece, while Lasith Malinga got two, and Jasprit Bumrah and McClenaghan claimed one wicket each.

Simmons was named Man of the Match.
