Jaydev Unadkat’s five-wicket haul, which included a hat-trick in the last over of the match, and Ben Stokes’ all-round performance saw the Rising Pune Supergiants beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 12 runs.

Choosing to bowl first, the Sunrisers got an early wicket as Supergiants opener Rahul Tripathi was run out by Bipul Sharma for one run.

Ajinkya Rahane fell shortly after for 22, but captain Steve Smith and Stokes stabilised the innings with a 60-run partnership.

Stokes ended up being clean bowled by Rashid Khan for a 25-ball 39 in the 15th over, while Smith was on his way back to the pavilion the very next over as he was dismissed by Siddarth Kaul for 34.

Even though the Supergiants continued to lose wickets, wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s quickfire 31 helped them finish on 148/8.

Kaul was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Rashid and Bipul chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 149 to win, the Sunrisers lost opener Shikhar Dhawan early on as he was clean bowled by Stokes for 19.

Stokes struck again two balls later as he had Kane Williamson caught behind for four runs.

Having lost two wickets in the space of three balls, the Sunrisers were reeling, but captain David Warner and Yuvraj Singh put together a 54-run partnership to steady the ship.

However, once Warner departed for 40, Unadkat triggered the Sunrisers downfall as they began to lose wickets at regular intervals, including that of Yuvraj, who went on to score 47 off 43 balls, which included four boundaries and two sixes.

To stamp his authority on the game, Unadkat removed Bipul, Rashid and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in successive deliveries to put the game out of reach for the Sunrisers, who concluded their innings on 136/9.

Unadkat was easily the most successful bowler with five wickets, while Stokes took three and Imran Tahir claimed one.

Unadkat was named Man of the Match.
