South Africa all-rounder Wayne Parnell is set to play for Kent in their Royal London One-Day Cup match against Sussex on Friday despite suffering a major health scare earlier this week.
On Tuesday, Parnell experienced tightness in his chest and an abnormally quick pulse during Kent’s Royal London One-Day Cup game against Somerset. As a result, he left the field after bowling four overs.
At the time, reports emerged that he had been taken to hospital to undergo heart tests, but those rumours have been played down as it was confirmed that he travelled back to Kent on the team bus.
Parnell visited a doctor on Wednesday to have a series of tests and Kent have since said that speculation about his condition has been “greatly exaggerated”.
Cricket South Africa have been informed about Parnell’s condition and the board gave the green light for him to play on Friday.
Parnell has been included in South Africa’s squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England and the Champions Trophy in June.
