Azhar celebrates after bringing up his 13th Test century

Pakistan opener Azhar Ali scored 105 and captain Misbah-ul-Haq once again made 99 to hand their side an 81-run lead before the West Indies began their second innings on the third day in Barbados.

Starting off the day on 172/3, Azhar and Misbah converted their 11-run partnership into a 98-run stand, during which Azhar brought up his century and Misbah his fifty.

With Pakistan on track for a mammoth score, the West Indies began to fight back, starting with the wicket of Azhar, who was caught behind off the bowling of Devendra Bishoo for 105 off 278 balls, which included nine boundaries.

Misbah and Asad Shafiq kept the runs flowing with a 57-run partnership before Misbah was dismissed by West Indies skipper Jason Holder for 99, which came off 201 deliveries and included nine boundaries and two sixes.

Following Misbah’s dismissal, Pakistan began to lose wickets at regular intervals courtesy of Shannon Gabriel, who speared through their lower order.

In the end, the tourists were bowled out for 393, which gave them an 81-run lead.

Gabriel was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Bishoo and Holder snapped up three wickets apiece.

Trailing by 81 runs, the West Indies lost a wicket on the 10th ball of their innings as Kieran Powell was caught behind off the bowling of Mohammad Abbas for six runs.

However, Shimron Hetmeyer and Kraigg Brathwaite guided their side safely to stumps with an unbeaten 32-run partnership.

Hetmeyer finished on 22 off 34 balls, which included four boundaries, while Brathwaite remained undefeated on eight off 46 deliveries, which included one boundary.

Abbas was the only bowler to take a wicket.

The West Indies ended day three on 40/1 and will continue batting on Wednesday at 10:00 local time or 14:00 GMT.
