England opening batsman Jason Roy won’t be returning to the Indian Premier League (IPL) after the ODI series against Ireland.

It was initially thought that Roy would fly back to India after the Ireland ODIs to continue representing the Gujarat Lions, but he has instead decided to remain in England and ply his trade for Surrey.

Roy has made himself available for Surrey’s Royal London One-Day Cup matches against Kent and Hampshire at The Oval. After that, he will link up with England’s Champions Trophy squad for their pre-tournament trip to Spain.

Roy played three matches in the ongoing edition of the IPL and scored 59 runs at an average of 29.50.
