The Royal Challengers Bangalore found themselves on the losing end once again as Aaron Finch hammered a highly entertaining 72 to lead the Gujarat Lions to a seven-wicket win.

Choosing to bowl first, the Lions ripped through the Royal Challengers’ top and middle order, with Andrew Tye leading the way.

Having been reduced to 60/5 and on the verge of yet another major collapse, the Royal Challengers stopped that from happening courtesy of a 40-run partnership between Pawan Negi and Mandeep Singh.

However, once Negi was dismissed for 32, the Royal Challengers failed to put up much of a fight and were subsequently bowled out for 134.

Tye was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Ravindra Jadeja snapped up two wickets, and Basil Thampi, Ankit Soni and James Faulkner chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 135 to win, the Lions were dealt a double blow early on as openers Ishan Kishan and Brendon McCullum were both sent packing by Samuel Badree for 16 and three runs respectively.

Finch and captain Suresh Raina stabilised the innings with a 92-run partnership, during which Finch sailed past his fifty, before he was removed by Negi for 72 off 34 balls, which included five boundaries and six sixes.

Raina and Jadeja mopped up the remaining runs as the Lions went on to win the match with 37 balls to spare.

Badree was the most successful bowler with two wickets, while Negi claimed one.

Finch was named Man of the Match.
