South Africa left-arm seamer Wayne Parnell and wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen have been sent home from New Zealand.

The duo were not needed for the third Test in Hamilton and were thus released from the Test squad.

Parnell and Klaasen are the third and fourth players respectively to head back to South Africa after Chris Morris and Duanne Olivier.

There was talk of Klaasen perhaps featuring in the third Test since regular wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock was diagnosed with ligament damage in his right index finger. However, the 24-year-old was cleared to feature in the match, but has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

As for Parnell, he was not needed since all three members of South Africa’s pace attack – Vernon Philander, Kagiso Rabada and Morne Morkel – are fit and healthy.
