England opening batsman Alex Hales could be sidelined for the third ODI against India in Kolkata on Sunday due to a finger injury.

Hales, who will undergo an x-ray upon arriving in Kolkata, suffered the injury while diving in an attempt to catch a shot played by wicketkeeper-batsman Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

Hales’ right arm was in a sling when England arrived at Bhubaneswar airport, but more details about the severity of the injury will be known after he has his scans.

Should Hales be ruled out for the third ODI, England are likely to bring in Sam Billings or Jonny Bairstow as his replacement.
