Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim will remain under observation for the next two days after hurting his right thumb and left index finger.

Mushfiqur suffered the injuries while batting on the second day of the ongoing first Test against New Zealand in Wellington, in which he made 159.

The 29-year-old was taken to hospital as a precaution, but no fractures were found in the x-ray he underwent.

“He will bat in the second innings if the need arises,” Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) media manager Rabeed Imam said.

During Mushfiqur’s absence, Imrul Kayes donned the keeping gloves and took two catches.

Earlier in the tour, Mushfiqur suffered a hamstring injury in the first ODI against the Black Caps and was subsequently forced to miss the two ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals that followed.
