England left-arm seamer Reece Topley has once again fallen victim to an injury as he suffered a shoulder problem that will now require him to undergo surgery.
Topley, who has represented England in 10 ODIs and six Twenty20 Internationals, experienced discomfort in his shoulder while throwing the ball during a training session ahead of the England Pace Programme in South Africa.
Hampshire, which is the county the 22-year-old represents, is optimistic that he will be fit in time for the start of the domestic season in April.
“Reece is a determined character and although it is disappointing news for him, we’re very hopeful that he’ll be fit and raring to go in time for the new season,” Giles White, Hampshire’s director of cricket, said.
Topley’s shoulder issue comes after he recovered from a stress fracture in his back, which limited him to just one appearance for Hampshire in the 2016 season. However, in that one game he played, he broke his hand while batting.

Footitt, Barker, S.Curran, Gurney and Willey are all superior left-armers available to England.
Willey and Gurney would definitely be the front two in my mind when it comes to left-arm seamers.
