History will be made when Australia tour South Africa in February to March 2018 for a four-Test series.

Australia and South Africa have not played a Test series comprising of four Tests since 1969-1970 and it will also mark the first time this has happened since the Proteas were reinstated as a Test nation in 1991 after the fall of apartheid in 1991.

Cricket South Africa confirmed that the four Tests will be held in Durban, Port Elizabeth, Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Interestingly, South Africa have not won a Test series against Australia on home soil since the 1960s, but have triumphed over the Baggy Greens in their last three visits Down Under.

“Since unification in 1991, this will be the first time the two countries will compete in a four-match Test series,” Cricket South Africa chief executive Haroon Lorgat said. “This will add to the significance of the Test series and will offer us a perfect opportunity to finally win a Test series at home against the formidable Aussies.

“Test match cricket between Australia and South Africa has always produced epic battles and brought out high-class individual performances that have become part of the annals of the game.”

The four-Test series against Australia will come after the Proteas take on India in the 2017/18 summer.

“Australia are currently the No. 2 ranked team on the ICC Test table and we will need to beat them and India to regain our place at the top of the table,” Lorgat said. “With this series being played straight after the tour by India our Proteas and fans can look forward to what will be one of the most challenging seasons of Test match cricket we have ever witnessed in South Africa.”
