“Misbah will play at Sydney and he will be captain”

Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq will feature in the third Test against Australia in Sydney on Tuesday, putting speculation about him possibly retiring to rest on a temporary basis.

After Pakistan collapsed on the final day of the second Test in Melbourne and lost the match by an innings and 18 runs, which handed Australia an unassailable 2-0 series lead, Misbah admitted that he would take some time to think about his future. He added that there was a chance he would quit international cricket prior to the start of the third Test.

But, the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) director of media, Amjad Hussain, confirmed that the 42-year-old will be part of the national team for the final Test in the three-match series.

“Misbah will play at Sydney and he will be captain,” Hussain said.

While Misbah will play in Sydney, what happens after the Test series concludes is less clear as Pakistan will not play Test cricket again until they travel to the Caribbean to take on the West Indies in April.
