After a thrilling first day that saw Australia skittled out for 85, their lowest score on home soil in 32 years, South Africa would have been hoping to press home their advantage in Hobart on Sunday, but it was not to be as the wet weather led to the entire day being washed out.
While no action was possible on the second day, the forecast for the remainder of the match looks promising as only a small amount of rain is scheduled to fall on the third day, while days four and five are set to be free of rain. Furthermore, play will start at 10am, half an hour earlier than the regular starting time, on the last three days in order to make up for the dreary weather on Sunday.
Vernon Philander starred on the first day as he finished with figures of 5-21 before South Africa ended the day on 171/5, with Temba Bavuma unbeaten on 38 and wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock undefeated on 28.
South Africa currently hold a 1-0 lead in the series as they defeated Australia by 177 runs in the first Test in Perth.
