India batsman Rohit Sharma will miss the ongoing series against England and is also poised to be sidelined for the four-Test series against Australia in February after undergoing surgery on his right thigh.

Rohit, who injured his thigh in the fifth ODI against New Zealand in Visakhapatnam on October 29, went under the knife on Friday in London and is likely to be out of action for 10 to 12 weeks.

As a result of this, the 29-year-old is unlikely to be fit when the Baggy Greens take on India as the series begins on February 23.

“The medical team of the BCCI confirms that India batsman Rohit Sharma underwent a surgery on his right thigh on Friday, November 11, 2016 in London. The procedure was successful and Rohit will be discharged from the hospital in the next 24 hours,” a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) statement said. “BCCI medical team is constantly monitoring his treatment and will oversee his recovery, towards becoming match fit.”

Rohit also took to Twitter to thank his supporters for their kind words and revealed that he will look to be back as soon as possible.
