The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that they received 57 applications for the position of head coach of the Indian team.
Some of the high-profile Indians to have applied for the position include former team director Ravi Shastri, current chairman of selectors Sandeep Patil and ex-India pace bowler Venkatesh Prasad.
Former Australian cricketer and Bangladesh coach Stuart Law reportedly expressed his interest in the position, but it is unclear which other foreigners have applied for the job.
The list of 57 applicants will be trimmed down by BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke before being forwarded to a cricket advisory panel, whose members have yet to be named.
“The primary scrutiny of the applications received is now being carried out by the Office of the Honorary Secretary of the BCCI, with regards to the applicants, meeting the set eligibility criteria,” the board said. “After this initial scrutiny, the list of candidates who meet the criteria will be processed for further consideration.”
