The second ODI between New Zealand and Pakistan in Napier was abandoned without a single ball bowled due to heavy rain and a wet outfield.

The start of play was delayed due to persistent rain, which carried on falling until mid-afternoon. However, even though the skies started to clear up, it was too little too late as the outfield was deemed too soggy to play on despite hours of work from the super soppers. In the end, the umpires decided to call the match off at 6.30pm.

With New Zealand having won the first ODI by 70 runs, Pakistan can now only end the three-match series as a draw, but only if they win the third and final match in Auckland on Sunday.
