England pace bowler Steven Finn is set to miss the fourth and final Test against South Africa in Centurion after suffering a side strain.

Finn complained of tightness in his left side after the third Test in Johannesburg, which England won by seven wickets to take an unassailable 2-0 lead. As a result, he underwent scans on Sunday morning.

With the prognosis not looking good, head coach Trevor Bayliss is likely to replace Finn with Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan or Mark Footitt.

“Steven is away getting scans but to be honest I doubt very much whether he’ll be available for the next Test,” Bayliss said. “We’ll have to wait and see how bad it is and make a decision on the one-day and Twenty20 series. But at this stage it looks like we have to make a replacement there heading into the last Test.

“That’s unfortunate because I thought he was probably our most dangerous bowler in the first two Tests.”

In the three Tests he has played, Finn picked up 11 wickets at an average of 26.09.
