Azhar Ali has agreed to continue on as Pakistan’s ODI captain after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) rejected his resignation.
Ali wanted to step down as ODI captain due to left-arm seamer Mohammad Amir taking part in a 26-man training camp in Lahore.
“Azhar Ali met the chairman [of the] PCB [Shaharyar Khan]. He tendered his resignation. The chairman didn’t accept his resignation, Azhar Ali agreed and he will continue as captain,” the PCB said in a statement.
Ali and veteran batsman Mohammad Hafeez initially refused to participate in the camp as long as Amir was there, but they changed their mind after meeting with Khan.
Amir, who recently completed serving a five-year ban for his role in a spot-fixing scandal in 2010, could make his international comeback during Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand in January.
