The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have opted to shelve their two-Test series against Zimbabwe, which was scheduled to be held in January 2016.

BCB president Nazmul Hassan revealed that the board made the decision due to the fact that they want the national team to focus on Twenty20 Internationals.

Hassan did not say when the Test series will be played, but confirmed that it could take place after the 2016 World Twenty20 in India.

“It is necessary for us to prepare for the Asia Cup T20 and the World T20 which are two important tournaments,” Hassan said. “Many of our T20 players aren’t in the [Test] squad so if we play Test cricket at that time, they won’t be able to prepare.”

Zimbabwe were initially supposed to tour Bangladesh for a full series, but the limited overs portion was forwarded to November after Australia cancelled their tour of Bangladesh in October due to security concerns.
