South Africa pace bowler Dale Steyn is likely to feature in the Boxing Day Test against England after recovering from a groin injury.
Steyn sustained the injury during the first Test against India in Mohali and subsequently missed the remainder of the series, which India went on to win 3-0.
“Dale has put a lot of work into his training and rehab since his return from India so we are very happy to have him back from injury,” South Africa team manager Mohammed Moosajee said. “He was put through a thorough fitness test on Thursday by Cape Cobras physiotherapist, Shane Jabaar, which included two bowling spells at match intensity, fielding drills, sprints and agility tests.
“He came through the tests without any discomfort and will be available for selection for the first Test match against England starting in Durban next week.”
While Steyn is set to make his Test return, the same cannot be said about fellow seamer Vernon Philander as it has already been confirmed that he will miss the first two Tests against England as he is still recovering from the ankle injury he sustained during the Test series against India.
