Former India left-arm spinner Sunil Joshi has been named as Oman’s spin-bowling coach ahead of the World Twenty20 in India in March, where the team will make their maiden appearance.

Oman will compete against Bangladesh, Ireland and Netherlands in the qualifying round of the tournament and only one of those teams will progress to the Super 10s stage. Oman will begin preparing for the tournament and the upcoming Asia Cup Twenty20 qualifiers with a 10-day camp in Rajkot that will start on December 20.

“It gives me an opportunity to work with an international team in such a big event,” Joshi told the Hindu. “I believe a coach should be able to demonstrate (in practice sessions) what he teaches. Duleep Mendis is the head coach and we can both relate a lot on how to play and bowl spin. Eventually it would help the team to be aware of the nuances of slow bowling.”
