India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has been cleared to bat on during his side’s second innings on Saturday despite being struck on the forearm while fielding on the second day of the ongoing fourth Test in Delhi.

The incident occurred when South Africa batsman Dean Elgar played a full-blooded pull shot that went on to hit Pujara on the fourth ball of pace bowler Umesh Yadav’s eighth over.

Pujara was in pain after being struck and was taken off the field to undergo a precautionary X-ray, but no major injury was revealed. The 27-year-old was not present on the field for the remainder of the day.

“Cheteshwar Pujara, who got hit while fielding at short leg, was taken for a precautionary X-ray,” India’s media manager Nishant Arora told reporters. “Nothing serious, it is a bruise. He will get treatment and should be able to bat tomorrow.”
