Victoria captain Matthew Wade will be out of action for an unknown period of time after he fractured his collarbone while batting in the nets.

Since Wade sustained the injury on the morning of Victoria’s Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia, match referee Bob Stratford allowed Victoria to call up wicketkeeper Aaron Ayre, who will make his first-class debut, as a replacement.

Wade underwent scans immediately after being struck, but Victoria physiotherapist Nick Adcock revealed that further tests are needed to determine the severity of the injury and how long Wade will be sidelined for.

“Matt will get further medical advice on Monday to determine the extent of the injury and recovery period,” he said.
