The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) have reinstated Phil Simmons as the national team’s head coach.
Simmons was suspended in September after he said that outside influence was to blame for the West Indies not fielding their best squad for their recently concluded tour of Sri Lanka.
Simmons had also said that he wanted to include all-rounders Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard in the ODI squad, but despite having the support of chief selector Clive Lloyd, he was unable to as he and Lloyd were outvoted in a selection meeting.
“I regret my public outburst during a press conference…and the revelation of the vote that took place at the selection meeting,” a statement released by the WICB on behalf of Simmons said. “I extend a public apology to all whom I may have offended. I have personally apologised to my fellow selectors and the WICB and now do so again publicly.I am looking forward to putting this behind me and doing the job I enjoy with the West Indies’ senior men’s teams.”
