Former Australia batsman Simon Katich has been named the Kolkata Knight Riders’ assistant coach just days after Jacques Kallis was appointed head coach.

Katich, who will replace Vijay Dahiya, was last seen in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2009, where he represented the Kings XI Punjab.

Kallis was delighted with Katich’s appointment and believes that they can lead the Knight Riders to IPL glory next year.

“It is great to have Simon on my management team,” Kallis said. “I have played many games against him and his understanding of the game is very good. He is a great asset to have and I really look forward to formulating plans with him and the rest of the team to help KKR to another title in 2016.”
