England head coach Trevor Bayliss has hinted that wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler could be dropped for the third Test against Pakistan in Sharjah.
Buttler has struggled with the bat as of late as he has only scored 34 runs at a dismal average of 8.50. However, his stretch of bad form can be tracked back to the Ashes series against Australia, where he accumulated 122 runs in five Tests at a disappointing average of 15.25.
As a result, Bayliss confirmed that he will speak to captain Alastair Cook about Buttler’s spot in the squad.
“It’s no secret Jos Buttler’s been a bit out of form,” Bayliss told reporters. “That’s a position myself and Alastair Cook will discuss in the next few days.”
Pakistan hold a 1-0 lead heading into the third Test after they won the second Test by 178 runs.
