Bengal captain Manoj Tiwary has claimed that Delhi skipper Gautam Gambhir made racist comments about India legend Sourav Ganguly and Bengalis during their Ranji Trophy match.

According to Tiwary, Gambhir made the remarks after they became involved in an ugly on-field altercation during the match, which started when the Delhi players accused Tiwary of wasting time as he signalled for his helmet when he came out to the crease and was about to face his first ball. Manan Sharma, who was bowling at the time, had some words for Tiwary before Gambhir joined in, which led to him and Tiwary nearly trading blows.

“He made racist remarks about Sourav Ganguly and Bengalis,” Tiwary told reporters. “I spoke to Sourav Ganguly and he is very upset that his name has been dragged in the matter. We will never accept anything against Sourav Ganguly.

“Gautam Gambhir is not saying the truth. If I had done what Gambhir is saying, why have I been fined 40 percent and him 70 percent.”
