Guyana Amazon Warriors batsman Brad Hodge made an unbeaten 61 to lead his side to a 23-run win via the Duckworth-Lewis method over the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

However, Patriots captain Marlon Samuels deserves a lot of credit for his valiant innings of 61.

Samuels would have been pondering over his decision to bat first as he was the only batsman to make a valuable contribution. Other than Samuels, who made 61 off 40 balls, which included six boundaries and two sixes, none of the other batsmen were able to surpass the 20-run mark.

But, it was due to Samuels’ knock that the Patriots were able to finish on 158/6 off their 20 overs.

Marchant de Lange and Ronsford Beaton picked up two wickets apiece, while Veerasammy Permaul and Devendra Bishoo claimed one wicket each.

Chasing 159 to win, the Amazon Warriors did not get off to the best of starts as they lost Trevon Griffith and skipper Denesh Ramdin for six and 31 respectively.

Hodge and Assad Fudadin stabilised the innings with an unbeaten 98-run partnership, during which Hodge brought up his half-century, before the heavens parted.

With the rain refusing to relent, the Amazon Warriors were named winners as they were 23 runs ahead of the par score.

Hodge finished on 61 off 36 balls, which included five boundaries and three sixes, while Fudadin remained undefeated on 43 off 43 deliveries, which included one boundary and two sixes.

Sheldon Cottrell was the only bowler to take any wickets.

Hodge was named Man of the Match.
