The Guyana Amazon Warriors tasted victory for the first time in this year’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL) as captain Denesh Ramdin smashed an unbeaten 54 to lead them to a seven-wicket win over the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.

Patriots skipper Marlon Samuels would have been regretting his decision to bat first as the entire batting line-up, with the exception of openers Martin Guptill and Evin Lewis, failed to make any valuable contributions.

Guptill and Lewis both scored 34, which ultimately allowed the Patriots to register a score of 149/9 off their 20 overs.

Ronsford Beaton was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Sunil Narine and Devendra Bishoo snapped up two wickets apiece and Tillakaratne Dilshan and Marchant de Lange chipped in with one wicket each.

Despite losing Dilshan early during their chase of 150, Ramdin and Lendl Simmons amassed a 65-run partnership before Simmons was caught by Sheldon Cottrell at long-on off the bowling of Tabraiz Shamsi for 41.

Ramdin and veteran Australia batsman Brad Hodge kept the runs flowing with a 59-run partnership before Hodge was caught by Tonito Willett at third man off the bowling of Cottrell for 18.

Ramdin and Umar Akmal mopped up the remaining runs with no problems whatsoever and the Amazon Warriors subsequently won the match with 24 balls to spare.

Ramdin ended up making 54 off 35 balls, which included five boundaries and four sixes, while Akmal remained undefeated on two.

Shamsi, Cottrell and Sohail Tanvir claimed one wicket each.

Ramdin was named Man of the Match.
