The Guyana Amazon Warriors have signed Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Umar Akmal for the upcoming edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Akmal is expected to join the Amazon Warriors on July 3 as he is currently representing Leicestershire in the Natwest T20 Blast.
This will be Akmal’s second appearance in the CPL after he played for the Barbados Tridents in 2013. Akmal did not enjoy a lot of success with the Tridents as he only scored 49 runs in six innings before suffering a seizure on a flight to Jamaica. Following the incident, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) asked the 25-year-old to return home so that he could undergo a medical examination.
Akmal has been in excellent form as of late as he was the second-highest run-scorer in the Super8 T20 Cup in Pakistan last month with 216 runs from four games at a strike-rate of 151. He also helped Leicestershire register a six-wicket win over Nottingham in the Natwest T20 Blast on June 5 by scoring an unbeaten 76 off 49 balls, which included four boundaries and five sixes.
