India opener Shikhar Dhawan scored an unbeaten 150 against Bangladesh on a rain-affected first day in Fatullah.

Dhawan was well supported by his opening partner Murali Vijay, who remained undefeated on 89.

As a result, India captain Virat Kohli would have been over the moon with his decision to bat first as his side did not lose a single wicket during the first day.

Bangladesh were made to toil all day and would have been extremely relieved when the heavens parted and halted Dhawan and Vijay’s charge.

With Dhawan and Vijay having amassed a 107-run stand prior to the rain, Bangladesh would have been planning for a way to bring the partnership to an end during the lengthy delay, especially after Shuvagata Hom dropped Dhawan at short midwicket when he was on 73.

After about four hours, the match finally resumed and Dhawan and Vijay continued their onslaught until the umpires brought play to an end for the day.

Dhawan and Vijay amassed an unbeaten 239-run partnership, during which Dhawan brought up his third Test century and Vijay his half-century.

Dhawan finished on 150 off 158 balls, which included 21 boundaries, while Vijay remained undefeated on 89 off 178 deliveries, which included eight boundaries and a six.
