Australia maintained their control over the West Indies after debutant Adam Voges scored an unbeaten 130 on the second day of the first Test in Dominica.

Starting out the day on 85/3, the Australian batsmen, with the exception of Voges, were unable to mount any sort of offense.

Like the West Indies on day one, Australia’s middle and lower order crumbled as they were completely bamboozled time and time again by spinner Devendra Bishoo.

With Australia having been reduced to 178/8, Voges and Nathan Lyon amassed a 43-run partnership before Lyon was given out lbw off the bowling of Shannon Gabriel for 22.

Lyon opted to review the decision, but replays showed that the ball was pitching in line and going on to clip leg stump. This led to the third umpire upholding the original decision.

Voges and Josh Hazlewood kept the runs flowing with a last-gasp 97-run partnership, during which Voges brought up his maiden Test century, before Hazlewood was clean bowled by Marlon Samuels for a career-best 39.

Voges remained unbeaten on 130, which came off 247 balls and included 13 boundaries and a six, as Australia were bowled out for 318, which gave them a 170-run lead.

Bishoo was easily the pick of the bowlers with six wickets, while Gabriel, Samuels, Jerome Taylor and Jason Holder chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Trailing by 170 runs, the West Indies got off to a horrible start as opening batsman Shai Hope was caught by Australia captain Michael Clarke at second slip off the bowling of Mitchell Johnson for two runs.

Kraigg Brathwaite made 15 runs before he was cleaned up by Mitchell Starc.

Darren Bravo and debutant Shane Dowrich put together an unbeaten four-run partnership before stumps was called.

Bravo finished on three, while Dowrich remained undefeated on one.

Johnson and Starc claimed one wicket each.

The West Indies ended day two on 25/2 and will continue batting tomorrow at 10:00 local time or 14:00 GMT.
