Fans in Dublin were left disappointed after heavy rain ruined their chance of witnessing a highly anticipated one-off ODI between Ireland and England.

Even though England won the toss, elected to bowl first and had Ireland in all sorts of trouble at 56/4, the bad weather refused to relent and it was only a matter of time before the game was abandoned.

England picked five debutants for the first time since 1996, but only Mark Wood and David Willey made an impact as they took one wicket apiece, while Jason Roy, James Vince and Zafar Ansari didn’t have much to talk about.

It is understood that no replacement match has been scheduled and that England will now prepare for their upcoming home series against New Zealand.
