Australia all-rounder Shane Watson and Pakistan pace bowler Wahab Riaz were both fined for their heated confrontation during their World Cup quarter-final match.

Riaz was fined 50 per cent of his match fee for clapping in Watson’s face and staring at him for an extended period of time.

Watson meanwhile was docked 15 per cent of his match fee for verbally abusing Riaz during the fiery dispute.

Since both players accepted their sanctions, there will be no need for a formal hearing.

However, both players were seen shaking hands and laughing at the end of the match.

“It was a game, it was fun, it was an exchange of words,” Riaz told ESPNcricinfo. “In the end hats off to him, he played well.

“You have seen me shaking hands and congratulating Shane Watson as well, so it was just a part of the game and when the game is finished you are friends outside.

“We have to accept we lost and they won, so we have to congratulate them. At the end I said to him well played, that’s it.”
