Pakistan left-arm pace bowler Junaid Khan has revealed that he may still be able to play in the World Cup despite having been ruled out with a thigh injury.

Khan, who got married on Monday, noted that his injury has been healing rapidly.

“When I was ruled out of the tournament last week I was at 50 percent fitness but the rehabilitation and recovery has been very good and presently I am at 70 percent fitness,” he told PTI. “I just want to regain my fitness as soon as possible so that if a chance comes up to play in this World Cup I can be considered as a replacement player.

“It is a big moment in my life but I will be [going to] the National Cricket Academy on Thursday to [restart] my rehabilitation process because I am praying I get a chance to still play in this World Cup.

“It has been tough dealing with these injuries but it is part of a professional cricketer’s life. And with a new phase of my life starting I am hoping for better luck.”
