A builder from Canterbury has admitted to assaulting New Zealand opening batsman Jesse Ryder outside a bar in Christchurch in March 2013.

The 39-year-old was supposed to appear in court in March this year, but has already pleaded guilty at Christchurch District Court.

The man’s nephew also pleaded guilty to assaulting Ryder earlier and claims that the incident occurred after he got into an argument with the opening batsman. It has been announced that he will sentenced on May 6.

The horrific attack left Ryder with a fractured skull and a punctured lung. In fact, his injuries were so severe that doctors decided to put him in a medically induced coma for three days.
