Trott ready to make international return, says Michael Vaughan

"I wouldn't rule out the selectors looking at Trott to open alongside Cook"

Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that batsman Jonathan Trott is ready to make his international return.

Trott has not played any international cricket since he returned home midway through the last Ashes series against Australia in December 2013 with a stress-related illness.

However, instead of batting at number three, Vaughan feels that Trott should open the batting with Alastair Cook in Tests since Sam Robson has yet to cement his place in the squad.

“England will want Trott back in,” Vaughan told BBC Radio Five. “They will be looking to see if he can fill that role alongside Alastair Cook.

“I wouldn’t rule out the selectors looking at Trott to open alongside Cook. The only spot available at the moment is as an opener.”
