Perth Scorchers batsman Ashton Turner scored 37 runs to help his side skirt past the Hobart Hurricanes by 18 runs.

However, Hurricanes batsman Michael Hill deserves a lot of credit for his valiant knock of 64.

Scorchers captain Adam Voges would have been regretting his decision to bat first after Marcus Harris, Michael Klinger and Michael Carberry were dismissed in quick succession.

Voges somewhat stabilised the innings with his knock of 26 before he was caught by Jake Reed off the bowling of Xavier Doherty.

Turner and Sam Whiteman kept the runs flowing with a 62-run partnership before Whiteman was caught by Tim Paine at short third man off the bowling of Reed for 36.

Turner went on to score 37 runs before he was clean bowled by Tim Bresnan.

Bresnan struck again two balls later when he cleaned up Ashton Agar for seven.

Yasir Arafat only made one run before he was run out by Bresnan.

Thanks to Turner and Whiteman, the Scorchers finished on 141/8 off their 20 overs.

Bresnan was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Reed snapped up two and Doherty and Cameron Boyce chipped in one wicket apiece.

Chasing 142 to win, the Hurricanes found themselves struggling at 81/4 in the 14th over.

Hill and Jonathan Wells somewhat steadied the innings with their 37-run partnership, during which Hill brought up his half-century, before he was caught by Jason Behrendorff at midwicket off the bowling of Andrew Tye.

Hill’s brilliant knock of 64 came off 55 balls and included five boundaries and a six.

Bresnan failed to trouble the scorers as he was given out lbw off the bowling of Arafat for a golden duck.

Arafat struck again just three balls later when he clean bowled Ben Hilfenhaus for four runs.

Despite Hill’s superb innings, the Hurricanes ended up falling 18 runs short of their target.

Arafat and Behrendorff took two wickets apiece, while Tye, Agar and Brad Hogg claimed one wicket each.

Behrendorff was named Man of the Match for his bowling figures of 2-21

In a rather surprising move, Behrendorff edged out Turner for the Man of the Match award.
