Australia stand-in captain Steven Smith has confirmed that left-arm pace bowler Mitchell Starc will replace Mitchell Johnson for the fourth Test against India in Sydney.

Johnson was ruled out of the fourth Test after complaining of hamstring soreness and missing Australia’s training session on Saturday.

“I think there’s no secret there’s a pretty big summer coming up,” Smith said. “We want him to be fresh for the one-dayers and World Cup coming up. We don’t want to risk him.”
