Since it is still unknown whether Michael Clarke will be fully fit prior to the start of the World Cup, legendary Australia skipper Ricky Ponting believes that George Bailey should captain the national team during the tournament.

However, there is mounting speculation that Steven Smith could be handed the reins after he led Australia to a four-wicket win over India in Brisbane during his debut as Test captain.

“I can’t see any reason whatsoever that there would be anyone other than George Bailey if Michael is not fit,” Ponting said. “He’s been an unbelievable player for Australia for the last few years, he’s led the team really well and he’s got some experience going into a World Cup which is what you need.
