The International Cricket Council (ICC) have allowed England to call up Kent wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings as a replacement for Craig Kieswetter in their preliminary World Cup squad.
The move comes after Kieswetter admitted that he was still having vision problems while playing for the Warriors in South Africa’s Ram Slam T20 Challenge.
Kieswetter’s eye problems arose when he was was hit in the face while playing for Somerset in a County Championship match against Northamptonshire. As a result of being hit, the 27-year-old suffered a broken nose and sustained severe damage to his eye socket and cheekbone.
Billings was given the nod ahead of everyone else after he averaged 81.66 in this season’s Royal London One-Day Cup.
