New Zealand Cricket (NZC) have announced that batsman Kane Williamson will captain the national team during their upcoming ODI and Twenty20 series against Pakistan.
This is because regular skipper Brendon McCullum will be flying back to New Zealand with the pace duo of Tim Southee and Trent Boult to prepare for the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka.
Since McCullum, Southee and Boult will not be available during the ODI and Twenty20 series against Pakistan, all-rounder Anton Devich and pace bowler Adam Milne have been called up as their replacements.
“Managing players’ workloads will be an important part of our summer’s plans and this is simply an example of that,” Bruce Edgar, the general manager of national selection, said. “On the flipside, it gives us a chance to assess and evaluate other players in contention for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 squad, and allows us to work on some of our contingency plans – such as developing Kane’s captaincy experience.”
New Zealand ODI and T20 squad: Kane Williamson (capt), Corey Anderson, Dean Brownlie, Anton Devcich, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Tom Latham, Mitchell McClenaghan, Nathan McCullum, Kyle Mills, Adam Milne, James Neesham, Luke Ronchi, Ross Taylor, Daniel Vettori
