India opening batsman Rohit Sharma has received INR 264,000 (approx US$4300) after scoring 264 runs, which is the highest score in ODI history, against Sri Lanka in the fourth ODI in Kolkata.

Sharma’s record-breaking knock of 264 came off 173 balls and included 33 boundaries, which is the highest number of fours any batsman has hit during an ODI innings, and nine sixes.

“It is our immense pleasure to inform you that on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Eden Gardens, the CAB [Cricket Association of Bengal] is very much honoured to present Rohit Sharma a cash award of Rs 2.64 lakh for creating a world record and making an unbelievable 264 runs,” a CAB release said.
