Australia all-rounder James Faulkner has been included in the Test squad for the upcoming two-Test series against Pakistan as a cover for fellow all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, who is still recovering from a hamstring injury.
Marsh was the frontrunner to replace all-rounder Shane Watson for the Test series after he injured his calf yet again. However, Marsh’s chances of making his Test debut were dented after he injured his hamstring while representing the Perth Scorchers in the recent Champions League Twenty20 (CLT20) in India.
Cricket Australia have reported that Marsh has begun jogging and batting in the nets, but are still unsure whether he will be able to bowl to the best of his ability before the first Test gets underway in Dubai on October 22.
The other alternative is to select all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who was the hero for Australia in the recently concluded third ODI in Abu Dhabi as he bowled a double wicket maiden in the final over to hand the Baggy Greens a stunning one-run win over Pakistan.
In the three-match ODI series, Faulkner scored 70 runs at an average of 35 and took three wickets at an average of 33.
