Former New Zealand batsman Craig McMillan has signed a two-year contract to become the national team’s full-time batting coach.

McMillan, who replaced Bob Carter, took up the role on a temporary basis during New Zealand’s recent tour of the West Indies. Due to the success he had, McMillan agreed to do the job permanently.

McMillan will now be a full-time member of New Zealand’s coaching set-up, which includes head coach Mike Hesson and bowling coach Shane Bond.

New Zealand Cricket’s (NZC) head of cricket Lindsay Crocker stated that McMillan had built a good relationship with a number of players in the national team over the past couple of months.

“The West Indies and NZA tours were his first as a coach at that level, and we’re very happy with his development,” Crocker said. “He’s been awarded his two-year contract on that basis and I’m confident he’ll continue to form an excellent coaching trio with Mike and Shane.”
