The St Lucia Zouks breezed past the Jamaica Tallawahs by seven wickets to give former England batsman Kevin Pietersen a debut to remember.

Mervin Mathew starred with the ball for St Lucia as he picked up three wickets and opener Andre Fletcher proved to be the hero when it came to batting as he smashed an entertaining 49.

St Lucia captain Darren Sammy would have been delighted with his decision to bowl first after Jamaica skipper Chris Gayle was given out lbw off the bowling of Shane Shillingford for just three runs.

Chadwick Walton was Jamaica’s top-scorer with 48 runs, which came off 33 balls and included two boundaries and five sixes, before he was caught by Mathew at deep square leg off the bowling of Liam Sebastien.

Following Walton’s dismissal, Jamaica’s middle order collapsed as they went from 64/2 to 86/5.

Andre Russell somewhat stemmed the bleeding by scoring a quickfire 18 before he was caught by Sohail Tanvir at short third man off the bowling of Mathew.

David Bernard managed to make 19 runs before he was caught by Johnson Charles at midwicket off the bowling of Tino Best.

New Zealand all-rounder Daniel Vettori mustered eight runs before he was caught by Pietersen at long-off off the bowling of Tanvir.

Rusty Theron scored 13 runs before he was caught by Henry Davids at point off the bowling of Best.

Jerome Taylor only made three runs before he was caught by Sammy at deep backward square leg off the bowling of Mathew.

Mathew was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Sammy and Best snapped up two wickets apiece and Tanvir, Shillingford and Sebastien chipped in with one wicket each as Jamaica were bowled out for 143.

Chasing 144 to win, St Lucia got off to a poor start as Charles was caught behind off the bowling of Vettori for 16.

Fletcher and Pietersen made up for the early loss of Charles with a 60-run partnership before Fletcher was given out lbw off the bowling of Russell.

Fletcher’s solid knock of 49 came off 35 balls and included three boundaries and three sixes.

Davids scored 29 off 17 balls, which included four boundaries and a six, while Tanvir remained undefeated on 20 off seven deliveries, which included one boundary and two sixes.

Vettori, Theron and Russell claimed one wicket each.

Mathew was named Man of the Match for his brilliant bowling.
