Barbados Tridents batsman Raymon Reifer hammered a stunning half-century and pace bowler Jason Holder took four wickets to lead their side to a 69-run win over the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel in St Kitts.

Trinidad and Tobago captain Dwayne Bravo would have been delighted with his decision to bowl first after Barbados opener Dwayne Smith was caught by Kevin O’Brien at mid-off off the bowling of Samuel Badree for five runs.

William Perkins managed to make 24 runs before he was caught and bowled by Badree.

Neil McKenzie only made two runs before he was run out by Sulieman Benn.

Reifer and Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik stabilised the innings with a 52-run partnership before Malik was caught by Bravo at long-off off the bowling of Shannon Gabriel for 35 runs.

Reifer and Barbados captain Kieron Pollard kept the runs flowing with a 69-run partnership, during which Reifer brought up his half-century, before Pollard was caught by Kevon Cooper at long-on off the bowling of Bravo for 34.

Thanks to Reifer’s unbeaten 65, which came off 41 balls and included five boundaries and three sixes, Barbados finished on 174/5 off their 20 overs.

Badree was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Gabriel and Bravo chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 175 to win, Trinidad and Tobago got off to a horrible start as Holder took out their top four batsmen in quick succession.

Darren Bravo and Nicolas Pooran steered the innings back in the right direction with a 43-run partnership before Bravo was caught by Pollard at deep midwicket off the bowling of Rayad Emrit for 12.

Pooran went on to score 33 before he was caught by Jeevan Mendis at deep backward square leg off the bowling of Pollard.

Following Pooran’s dismissal, Trinidad and Tobago’s lower order absolutely collapsed as they went from 93/6 to 105 all out.

Holder was the most successful bowler with four wickets, while Emrit snapped up three and Pollard, Ravi Rampaul and Ashley Nurse claimed one wicket each.

Holder edged out Reifer for the Man of the Match award.
