Jamaica Tallawahs pace bowler Jerome Taylor registered figures of 2-11 off his four overs and batsman Owais Shah smashed an entertaining 42 to lead their side to a 19-run win over the Barbados Tridents at Sabina Park.
However, Barbados all-rounder Shoaib Malik deserves a lot of credit for his valiant knock of 81.
Barbados captain Kieron Pollard would have been pleased with his decision to bowl first early on after Jamaica opener Chadwick Walton was given out lbw off the bowling of Ravi Rampaul for 25.
Shah and Jamaica skipper Chris Gayle made up for the early loss of Walton with a 79-run partnership before Shah was caught by Jeevan Mendis at midwicket off the bowling of Ashley Nurse.
Shah’s solid knock of 42 came off 36 balls and included three boundaries and two sixes.

Following Shah’s dismissal, Jamaica’s middle and lower order completely collapsed as they went from 114/2 to finishing on 147/8 off their 20 overs.
Gayle was the only other batsman to reach double figures as he ended up scoring 39.
Rampaul inflicted the most damage with four wickets, while Rayad Emrit picked up three and Nurse chipped in with one.

Chasing 148 to win, Barbados got off to a terrible start as they lost their top three batsmen for just 27 runs.
Malik and Neil McKenzie stabilised the innings with a 42-run partnership before Mckenzie was clean bowled by Nikita Miller for nine runs.
Pollard and Jason Holder were also dismissed in quick succession, which left Malik to chase down the remainder of the runs with the tail.
However, even though Malik hammered an unbeaten 81 off 43 balls, which included five boundaries and six sixes, the required run rate was just too high.

In the end, Barbados fell short of their target by 19 runs.
Taylor and David Bernard took two wickets apiece, while Miller and Andre Russell claimed one wicket each.
Taylor was named Man of the Match for his superb bowling figures.
